Scholarship FAQ's

Who is eligible to apply for a 101: Fund scholarship?

  • Seniors at Princeton High School and PHS alumni who received a 101: Fund scholarship in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 or 2024

  • Applicants must intend to study at a college, university, non-profit technical school, or non-profit vocational school

  • Scholarship applicants must demonstrate financial need, as determined by The 101: Fund Awards Committee​

  • Qualifying recipients may receive up to $3,000 per school year (for students attending four-year colleges/universities) or $6,000 per school year (for students attending community college)

  • Recipients may return and reapply in subsequent years for additional funding.

  • All scholarship payments will be sent directly to schools, not to individual recipients.

 

I'm a FIRST-TIME APPLICANT. What do I need to apply? (Returning students, please see below, "Scholarship Information for Returning Students"

  • FSS Submission Summary (FSS), which is sent to you after completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Click here for the current FAFSA application. 

  • The first page of your parents’ 2023 1040 tax form. **Please redact SSN's on tax returns for security reasons.

  • Your most recent transcript from PHS

  • A brief essay 

  • One letter of recommendation from a PHS teacher; a second letter from a PHS teacher may also be submitted but is not required.

  • Financial aid letter from the school you will be attending (when available)

  • A list of any siblings in college and what your family pays in tuition for those siblings​​

What is the timeline for FIRST-TIME APPLICANTS?

  • February 1, 2025 - The 101: Fund application for 2025-26 will become available through our online portal. 

  • April 15, 2025 - Deadline for NEW applicants

  • May - The Awards Committee will interview applicants.

  • June 1, 2025- All applicants will be notified as to whether they will receive an award. 

  • Mid-June – 101: Fund Awards Ceremony

  • Summer 2025 - After an applicant has been awarded a scholarship, the terms of agreement must be accepted via the portal. Click here to view the terms of agreement. Recipients also must upload their bills for the 2025-26 school year. Once a student’s agreement has been signed and the bill received, The 101: Fund will send out the scholarship payment to the college/university.

Scholarship Information for Returning Students

 

You are a returning student if:

 

  1. You previously received a 101: Fund scholarship AND

  2. You are a PHS graduate from the Classes of 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024

 

Please note: Returning students from the Classes of 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 must reapply to receive the next installment of their multi-year scholarships

To reapply for the 2025-26 school year, you must log into the 101: Fund portal and submit the following:

  • ​A FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) OR estimate email sent to you after filing out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on the Department of Education’s website OR the first page of your parents’ 2023 tax returns (if they file separately, please provide both. **Please redact SSN's on tax returns for security reasons) . Click here for the current FAFSA application.

  • The tuition bill from your school for the current school year (2023-2024)

  • Your most recent transcript  

  • A list of any siblings in college and what your family pays in tuition for those siblings.

What is the timeline for RETURNING STUDENTS?

  • February 1, 2025 - The 101: Fund application for 2025-26 will become available through our online portal. 

  • March 15, 2025 - Deadline for RETURNING students

  • May 1, 2025 - All applicants will be approved or notified if additional information is needed. 

  • Summer 2025 - Returning students who have been approved to continue using their scholarships must submit a bill for the 2025-26 school year. Once this bill has been uploaded to the portal, the 101: Fund will send out the scholarship payment to the college/university.
